I know a lot of people think this season is bad and all, but honestly if Rare can fix all of the underappreciated/underused features (hourglass) while bringing updates along with it, the game can come back.

Honestly, in my opinion game died after the captaincy update... It's sad, this was a genuinely good game but devs started putting out useless updates nobody asked for.

Rare, you missed the mark again.
Personally the game died for me after completing most of the story quests. Can't get people to join my crew, any that do immediately leave so why bother? Most just want to PvP but I don't care for that nonsense and private sessions are boring without others. Why can't people just be chill and friendly? Oh because most are evil children.
So no one here is even good enough to see progress
